This first verse speaks to those who want to be rich.  I knew a lady some years back who told me she made up her mind that she wanted to be a millionaire.  She told me that she reached her goal but it wasn’t as much pleasure as she thought it would be.  I, because of Christ,  may be as happy as some of our well known men of great means.  I don’t have to worry about someone taking it away.  We have this Bible saying that the love of money is the root of all evil.  It is the love of money not the money itself but the covetous love of it.  Do you have money or does the money have you? A man asked what would satisfy this person.  The answer was, “Just a little more.”
Timothy was to flee these things, and Paul told him the things that he should follow. The list to follow was
righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience and meekness.  These are things money can’t buy.
There is a  phrase that says, “Fight the good fight of faith lay hold on eternal life.” We are saved when we accept Christ by grace alone.  Then what is meant by laying hold on eternal life? My chief aim is to enjoy my position with Christ. I will be with him forever.  I want to live like that now.  To me that is what that term means.
The last phrase is that Christ was a good witness to Pilate. Pilate was interested but did not respond.
